Dr. Kebede Kassa Tsegaye brings over 26 years of experience in social development to his current role as Senior Program Coordinator for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) since 2017.
His dedication to the region began even earlier, serving as a Senior Advisor on social development to IGAD on a consultancy basis since 2011.
Previously, Dr. Kebede held leadership positions at St. Mary’s University (Ethiopia) as Director for Research and Knowledge Management Office (2015-2019) and at the African Union, Department of Social Affairs (2003-2010) as a Senior Expert/Program Officer. In this role, he played a key role in developing continental policies and strategies on health, culture, sports, population, and development.
His academic background includes extensive teaching experience and various leadership positions at Alemaya University in Ethiopia, culminating in his role as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies (1988-2003).
Dr. Kebede’s expertise spans population, health, gender equality, and children’s rights. Throughout his career, he has consistently championed social development policies at the regional and continental level.
